mmm chaos

My Dove chocolate reminds me that "in chaos there lies opportunity." I
didn't know that the ones with the caramel centers were for looters and
delinquents. Well, it was chocolate stolen from Joe's desk...

yay science!

Some poor graphics artist has neglected to actually look at the natural
world. All I can say is at least they know in theory what a prism does,
if in fact they have never seen one in action.

I found this in the educational clipart on some reputable site. I sent
them an email about it but they never got back to me. I am just another
terrible internet person.

t-shirt bikini

I finished this before I left for the eclipse and never got a chance to
post. I took the hint from instructables but then I got fancy with the
stitching and elastic and this is the result. No pictures of me in it,
it's too sexy.

at the end of the tour

Well things have been fun, we're all safe and sound back in Honolulu
crunching away at our data. Dave is getting his pictures up and posting
his thoughts about the trip on his blog:

My album is on facebook already but I need to work on it to get it on my
own website. Here is a picture to whet your appetite.

well, we're going

and I've got garlic salt and a bag of beef jerky...I think I'm set. I'm
excited to see if we get spam for any of our meals or if I get to clean
and grill my own fish, I think I could manage.

work bad, surf good

Two days in a row now where I get to work and break things...disaster!
I think I've kludged it together with enough epoxy now.

Waves were nice and small, really glassy too. Strangely there were a
ton of shortboarders, what were they even doing? I got a bunch of nice
rides and managed not to hit anyone, although I considered it briefly.
I have problems surfing in directions other than the one I'm looking.

eclipse what

So the reason I know nothing about the eclipse travel plans is that no
one knows how we're getting from Majuro to Enewetak. The plane fell
through, apparently it's been out of commission since january. So it
remains to be seen whether we can get a boat to Enewetak or another of
the atolls that lies in the eclipse path. That known and also not being
able to do anything about it I can relax into a state of zen and enjoy
my vacation in the Marshall islands. Can I check a bodyboard? it's 41".

Also there is a lovely sunspot group. Haosheng was doing observer
training and got data so we're all set to release the instrument. It
leaves me the month of August to reduce it, huzzah!
